Celtic’s bid to sign Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull has hit the buffers after he rejected a ‘fantastic’ offer from the club.
Celtic appeared to be in the box seat, as the only club to have met Motherwell’s £3million plus add-ons valuation for their prized asset.
Celtic have confirmed the talks have reached an impasse, but said on Twitter that the offer remains on the table.
It’s the latest twist in a transfer saga that has been played out to a large degree on social media, with Celtic now adding their own tweets to those emanating from the Fir Park outfit in the last few days.
In a terse statement, Celtic said: “Celtic FC was pleased to agree a record-breaking fee with Motherwell FC for David Turnbull and we have quickly followed this up with a fantastic offer to the player through his agent.
“Currently, we have been unable to come to an agreement with the player’s agent.
“Celtic FC is content that it has made a magnificent offer and it is now up to the agent and player to decide if the player wants to join Celtic. If not, we move on. “
While the offer does still stand, the last line suggests it could be a long way back if the deal is to go through.
If no one else matches Celtic’s offer, there’s a chance Turnbull could end up plying his trade at Fir Park next season.
However, the likelihood is that the player’s and his team will know his stock his high at the moment and will be anticipating a club to come forward with a bid in the not too distant future..
