Gerrard hits panic button with ‘£7m bid’ for Ryan Kent

Rangers are reported to be in advanced talks to sign Ryan Kent from Liverpool.

Sky Sports are reporting that Rangers are trying to get the winger back for “up to £7m”.

The move smacks of desperation, coming after Steven Gerrard’s overhyped side came crashing back to reality as Celtic thumped them 2-0 at Ibrox.

Where they will get that kind of money is anyone’s guess, but the clue in any deal might be in the “up to” part.

Last year Kent was reportedly “rated at more than £12m”, but Liverpool have struggled to get half of that as they attempt to get him off their books.

Small wonder, as the wide man managed six goals and 10 assists for the Ibrox outfit last season.

In comparison, Mikael Lustig, a right-back with one appearance more to his name, scored twice and created nine goals. And all that when his legs had supposedly gone

Kent’s reputation is built on two half-decent games against Celtic and taking a swing at Scott Brown during his team’s collective meltdown at Parkhead.

Should the panicking Ibrox club go through with the move, it may well prove to be an expensive folly similar to the many that led to the old club’s demise.

Love to know who is providing the money in the desperate attempt to stop 9&10. Was it a 14 million loss last season? Likely that SG has arranged some installments deal based on Europa League gate receipts.
