Forward Jonathan Afolabi has signed for Celtic according to reports.
The 19-year-old free agent, who left Southampton in the summer, was pictured taking in today’s extra-time win over Dunfermline in the Betfred Cup.
The Republic of Ireland Under-19 international has now put pen to paper on a deal at Parkhead, reports the Record.
“We have signed him on a free transfer and he is one that’s a development,” Celtic manager Neil Lennon said.
Neil Lennon had previously he was on the lookout for a fourth striker, but whether this will signal the end of business at that end of the pitch remains to be seen.
More pressing is the need for defensive reinforcements.
Kristoffer Ajer went off injured as Celtic toiled to a 2-1 win over Dunfermline.
Bolingoli also went off. The left-back and fellow defender Jullien continue to take time adapting to their new surroundings.
Lennon gave an injury update after the match and it looks like Celtic fans can breathe a sigh of relief over Ajer.
He said: “Ajer popped his shoulder, but we think he’s okay now. Mikey had cramp, but I was very impressed with him. Boli also cramped up but should be fine.
The defensive issue is critical for Celtic and could determine the course of the season if it’s not addressed by the time we got to Ibrox on 1 September.
By that time, we could be facing a season out of Europe so, while signing prospects is all well and good, it’s time to get down to some serious business for the here and now.
